Ponoka Victim Services Association is committed to providing support for all victims of crime and tragedy in a caring, compassionate and prompt manner.
We work with the RCMP to provide:
- Information, support, and referrals
- Crisis intervention and follow-up
- Court orientation/support
- Public education
- Crime prevention
- Emergency Preparedness
Our volunteer Advocates are genuinely interested in helping others and are committed to providing support for all victims in a caring, compassionate and prompt manner. They are team players with strong communication and problem solving skills who are dedicated to maintaining confidentiality and security. An Advocate has to be 18 years of age or older and able to pass an RCMP security clearance.
The unit operates under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors composed of local community members.
We are always looking for volunteer advocates and board members!

A victim is anyone who is experiencing emotional or physical responses as a result of crime or tragedy such as:
- Homicide
- Suicide/attempted suicide
- Assault
- Sexual assault
- Domestic violence
- Sudden death
- Motor vehicle accidents
- Missing persons
- Robberies/property crime
- Home or business break and enter
Some of the needs of a victim might be:
- Referral to Counseling/emotional support
- Referral to agencies
- Transportation
- Development of safety plans and protection measures
- Crime prevention information
- Assistance in applying for financial restitution/benefits
- Assistance in the return of stolen property
- Information on case progress
- Court orientation and support
